SONOMA RELAY FOR LIFE

You can decide to take action against cancer by participating in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life event: right here in your community at Sonoma Valley High School Track.  Relay For Life is about celebration, remembrance, and hope.  By participating, you are honoring cancer survivors, paying tribute to the lives we have lost to the disease, and raising money to help fight it.

If you wish to participate save the date for the Relay For Life event - Saturday, August 1st starting at 10:00am and ending Sunday, August 2nd at 10:00am.  Our Newcomers team will take turns walking around the track at the high school - during the event on Saturday.  The relay is 24 hours in length; representing the reality that cancer never sleeps.

Sign ups for the walk or to help support our booth are available either at the June picnic or by contacting Mary Munstermann or Jean Brown.  Their phone numbers are in the directory, (or else you can use the "contact us" page on this website).

Financial Support: If you wish to make financial support for this cause please make checks payable to the American Cancer Society and donate at the June picnic, the day of the event or send checks to:

American Cancer Society, 1451 Guerneville Road, Suite 220, Santa Rosa, CA 95403

or Sonoma Valley Newcomers, PO Box 26, Sonoma, CA 95476.

Important: Make a notation on the check - "Sonoma Relay For Life - Newcomers" so that our team can be recognized for the donation.

The Luminaria Ceremony

Luminary bags "in honor of" or "in memory of" those who have battled cancer may be obtained at the June picnic or at the site of the event. The bags can be decorated and a name put on them of someone special who has been profoundly affected by cancer and the family and friends who continue to fight back in their honor.  A candle is put in the bag and they are placed to light the path of those walking through the night to fight back against cancer.

The Luminaria Ceremony touches the heart as the candles are lit around the track in honor of the survivors, and in memory of those who have lost the fight. It is scheduled for 9pm on August 1st, Saturday night.
